Troon Tortoises 10k, Troon

40.38 on a wet and windy night on the Ayrshire coast, and I was pleased with my run.  Are my sub 40 days gone for ever?

Not if you give up running 53 mile races the week before 10ks. So the answer is possible yes!!

Ian, after that great time in not-easy conditions, I suggest you enter the East Kilbride 10k on 21st June.  It's bone flat and mostly sheltered (and good possibility of reasonable weather) so every chance you'll smash that 40 minutes with room to spare.  And 80-90 minutes later, you can have the pleasure of seeing Judith and I stagger back after running the half-marathon.....   Or not!

Very Happy Colin

Would agree with previous reply. My experience has been that a good endurance base (which you have) together with speed work (5x1000m intervals - 1 every 6mins) helps train the body to produce consecutive 1k intervals during the race. Not that I do any of this now! It is merely a dream.
I have to be content for the moment with a 44m25s 10k at Kinross when I was looking for a sub 43min run. Last year I managed a couple under 43min.
I gauge how good my performances are against fellow M60's in the race (as always there are some very good runners in this age group) and  the Road Runners Club Standard Times (they have a website).

All the best Ian hope to see you at some of the shorter SH Championship races.
