Time trial 8th AugustThe day was known, the time was set
For all to beat the clock and get
The magic figure that would say
A new achievement on the day
So convoy sailed, two mutts in hand
To take the place on Starter’s Stand
Through town and park the mutts were leashed
Until at last the place was reached
The numbers wristed told that there
Were none of those who said they care
But on sailed they who would record
The noble times of all aboard
But slugabeds and Holy Days
Stacationers and those who gaze
On foreign shores and other sites
Absent themselves, and no-one writes
So what to do with Starters gun
Apply to head? A lonely run?
Take mutts for stroll, a better plan
Be not upset, just be a man
And so it was that Saturday
The plaque was blank, the numbers lay
Unused - but for another time
There will be throng and not just mime
So there upon fair Laggan’s brow
The mutts ran free and wondered how
It came to pass no-one did come
But mysteries can strike us dumb
So in the time that might be lost
This little ode came to be post
But Thoughts are free upon the Mounts
Ah, “1–2–3”, it’s the Thought that counts

Colin, is that a poetic way of saying no-one turned up?
I was doing the Devil O'The Highlands, and Phil T was my back up. George was doing karaoke until all hours on Friday night. That's our excuses...

OK - you're excused (and stalwart helpers, of course) after such a great effort. Maybe next time you can do 16 or 17 circuits of Lady Mary's and pretend...
Does this mean, by the way, that you're doing all five legs on the 22nd? Thought not!

Sorry you were on your own, Colin - my excuse is that I was driving a group of Germans from Blair Atholl to Edinburgh airport at the end of a week away.
Good ditty though.
