RUN WITH THE WIND 10K, 23rd NOVEMBER 2008Hi Folks,
The Strathaven 10k is coming up it is a brill race. It was ran for the 1st time last year- pretty scenic and very well organised. You get bused to the start which leads to a 5k downhill trek -with the wind in your hair followed by an uphill 5k. It is ideal for a sub 40 (40.45 I got last year)
Hope some of you can make it
You can enter online at http://strathavenstriders.co.uk/

I missed it last year due to chest infection.....Looking forward to it this year.

40 min 10KAllan, maybe we should have a bet to see you gets the sub 40 first ?? that will make it a bit more interesting hows £20.00 each? not that I think I can do it before you, just money will make me run faster!!

sub 40 10kGreat idea Angela, though it does sound like a bit of a challenge. I have vowed that Strathaven will be my sub 40- if I can manage the speed work!
How is your training coming along- do you fancy sub 40 at Strathaven or do you just fancy beating me for £20!!

sub 40 10kAllan,
I really think looking at the elevation profile of the race that we should both be able to do it as it's mainly down hill!! just need to make sure practice running down hill a bit!
After the comrie hill race I had a bad chesty cold and didn't run for 2 weeks, so was really disapointed not to do the pitlochy 10 k.
but back now and for my birthday I got a Forerunner 201 - I 'd really recommend one as i think this will make me know when Iam running at the right pace. It was only £80, well worth it! it tells you what pace your going at and has lots of features like beeps if your running too slow/fast. if you don't have one Amazone it the place to get it! So to run a 40 min 10 k we need to go at 6min 45 sec per mile or less. just not as easy as it sounds.
I am no where near running 6.2 miles at that pace yet but hoping to train hard for the strahaven 10K. think if we do under 40 mins it would need to be more like 38 to think that we could do a normal 10 k in under 40
Anyway hope your training going well!

Crazy kidsGood luck to you two guys for that sub 40 10K.
I think I may do that race too but I think I will be watching you head off into the sunset!!!!
That pace thing sounds good though, Angela. May well be on my Xmas list.
Karen.

Sub 40Thanks Karen, lookin forward to it. It will be tough especially now I'm now under a bit of pressure now from Angela.
Angela I have a Garmin too and it has changed my running -no more running alone, the virtual training partner is great although he doesn't slow on the hills which is tough.
As for 38 mins for Strathaven I am happy with 39.59- last year I did 40.45 with a lace stop, my pace was 3k 11mins, 4k 14, 5k 18 30, then the hills kicked in, 8k 32.49.
did a speed session at 5.30am this morning 4x2k fast- this is pushing me to do more-

run with the windHi Karen and Allan
Karen, if your doing it we should go down together as it's miles away! let me know if you want to and we can arrange a meeting point nearer the time.
Allan,
I just think the route profile looks like the race is mainly down hill with two hills - one at 4 -6 ks and other at 8ks, after seeing your spilts it does sound as easy anymore. Whats the terrain like? is it ok to use road shoes?

Hi all of you,
I'm not sure where Kirsty & I will be leaving from, if it is Comrie I'll let you all know and see who would like a lift.
Looking forward to it.

Good idea about car sharingHi Angela,
Good idea about car sharing. I am pretty sure I will be doing it, but at the moment I am still letting my feet (and legs) recover from the Pentland Sky Line. Will keep you posted...

Strathaven 10kAngela,
you won't need ur off road shoes, it is track/road- how is the speed work- is the wager still on?
Karen,
Well done on the Pentland run sounds a cracker, strathaven will be a walk in the park after that!!!

Allan
yeah wager still on , not done much speed work as Amber has just got her first two teeth- so sleepless nights are effecting my training schedule!! When I hear you doing 4 x 2 k speed sessions that makes me think your running faster by miles... what's your average speed per mile when your doing the 2 k?? and what recovery do you do?
Angela

Allan
|
Thats a pity with Amber- its so sore as well Liam is going through the teething as well just now- but no sign of teeth as yet!
The 2k splits are between 8.30-9.00, with about 1 min recovery I am now doing 3x2mile splits (well 1.92) that is quite good and its handy for lunchtimes at work.
The wager challenge is inspiring me- what are your targets this week?

Help An InjuryI have injured my foot, so I am hoping I won't have to cancel the race but there has been no training since Tuesday and I think I'll pop down to the hospital tmora just to make sure it is nothing serious.
Angela, looks like your £20 is safe!!

Hi Angela,
No prob re the jacket. Not ill, just have an inability to warm up once cold. Usually try to prevent the cold setting in - bad planning of layers on my part.
Will text my address. Just in case you hadn't realised I decided not to do Strathaven 10K as want to do Br of Orchy run.
Good luck for the10K.

Hi Angela,
Thanks for the Bishopbriggs info that would be a good back up to aim for.
There is also a flat one earlier in the year, in Cambuslang on 28th Dec; http://www.scottishathletics.org....itemType=fixtures&itemId=7566 (although I am supposed to be doing a xmas 5 mile handicap race that day)
See you Sunday
