National Masters Cross country championshipsFinally a race where it doesn't just help to be old, it's actually compulsory!
But don't be misled - there are some very fast "old" - 35 or older - runners out there, as demonstrated by the winning time of 31.12 by Robert Quinn (40) of Kilbarchan in the men's race over a tough cross-country 10k distance.
Four Harriers - Will, Ian, Phil T and I - made the trip to Irvine on a lovely sunny day to race on a firm grassy course with a few scattered patches of snow and a stunning view across the Firth of Clyde to the snow-covered hills of Arran.
Will was first Harrier home in 36.01, 45th place, followed by cross-country virgin Phil T who finished in a very creditable 39.33 and 92nd place. Ian was very close behind in 40.13 and 102nd place and I brought up the rear for the Harriers in 42.29 and 121st place. As a team we were 18th in the mens championship.

All in all, a great day out, and as usual with cross-country there was a terrific atmosphere - competitive but very friendly. Thanks to Ian for driving there and back, and I hope Will's long onward drive to Southampton went well.

For the record, it took 6 1/2 hours and I had a savagely sore backside. (as a result of the drive you understand!)
