Manor WaterNot long back from a very pleasant afternoon in the Borders at this event which interestingly brings together at the same venue sheepdog trials and a 10 mile hill race!
The weather co-operated to give us a long spell of sunshine with a cooling breeze that made for excellent running conditions on an out-and-back course that was almost 100% runnable on dry heather and grass tracks.
The course climbs to the 719m summit of The Scrape but there is also a bit of up and down on the way, so I tried to hold back some energy for re-ascent on the way back and was pleased that it paid off in terms of passing quite a few runners to finish in 1:35.00 and 46th place out of 86.
I was 7th male vet 50 - which seemed quite encouraging - but on the other hand the race was won with a clear 2 minute lead by Colin Donnelly of Lochaber who is now also a male vet 50 and who set a new over 50 record with his time of 1:08:50.
It'll be another 5 years before I'm running in a different age category to him, which of course is a bit discouraging!
