Local race in May - Strathallan 5 mile road raceInfo received about a local race in May.
STRATHALLAN 5 MILE ROAD RACE
Assisted by CARNEGIE HARRIERS
Note change of week-day and time for 2009
SUNDAY 17th May at 2pm – Forgandenny, near Perth
Set within the picturesque grounds of Strathallan School at Forgandenny, near Bridge of Earn, the race consists of 2 scenic laps of undulating terrain, on a road which is virtually traffic free at this time of day. The race is signposted and marshalled. There is ample parking space at the School. Adjacent to the start line, the changing facilities are first class with warm showers. Baking will kindly be provided by Carnegie Members themselves, with tea and coffee also available. The usual post-race chat takes place around the Art School. Prizes are presented shortly after the race, with rewards for the 1st three males, 1st three females, 1st male vet, 1st male supervet and 1st female vet and first female supervet.
Entry fees and donations will be given to C.H.A.S., GET KIDS GOING and CANCER RESEARCH. A sponsorship form will be sent with your entry acknowledgement though there is no obligation.
The race usually attracts local Club runners and although it is still a relatively small gathering competition at the top of the field is fierce, with names such as Chris ROBISON, John HARGREAVES, Paul ARCARI (course record holder, in 25:43), Neil YOUNG and Jack BROWN featuring amongst the all time winners. Our own Kate MCKINNON holds the women's course record of 31:19. Last year John OWENS, Editor of My Race Magazine, not only ran the race but wrote a glowing report in the July/August 2008 issue. Come and see for yourself why this event will be over-subscribed before race day!
