Highland Fling 2009

Well all 3 of us survived.

I am cream crackered, in a lot of pain but overjoyed to say I finished in a time of 12 hours 11 mins and 53 secs.

Phil T finished in 10 hours 43 mins 47 secs and Ian finished in 11 hours 24 mins 05 secs.

I have written a blog post. I am afraid it is very much from my perspective so maybe the guys want to do one from their view point. I hope it is not too boring and that you enjoy a little insight into the weird world of ultra running. http://strathearnharriers.blogspot.com

Thanks to all those people who have supported me, either in training, confidence boosting and physical cheering on during the race. Also thank you if you have sponsored me.
An especially big Ta to my hubby for being a superstar at every support stop and for encouraging me with all the training a pre race nerves.

well done Kaz - an excellent performance.  I think your blog posting captured the highs and lows of ultra running very well: one minute you are feeling great, then the next minute you are picking yourself up after tripping over some stone which has just appeared from nowhere.

I'll put a more detailed posting on my blog later.  Although it was far from my best or most comfortable run, I was delighted to work through the many hard spells and get to the end.  From looking at the results I think there are now only 4 of us who have finished all 4 Highland Flings.

Well done to Phil as well.  Sub 11 hours is a quality performance.

Well done all you ultra nutters!!!  Especially well done to Karen in her first, a really amazing performance.   So glad it was a lovely day for you all albeit a wee bit warm.  Really enjoyed coming out to see part of the race and getting a sense of what this sort of event is like.

Am I tempted?  NO!!! But well done to all of you for doing the club proud.

Great write up Kaz and well done to Kaz and Ian. These events are tough enough when all is going well but when you have problems like Ian had on Sat finishing is a massive achievement.
I will be very surprised if Kaz doesnt do another ultra. She obviously has a talent for these events.
Thanks to Al, Colin and Ali for cheering me on. Sorry I was so grumpy when I saw Ali. That was just about the lowest point of my race after a fall and cramp. However I finished with a smile.
Of course my biggest thanks are to Liz(T) and Alison for all their support.

Great effort from all 3 + their respective support teams.

For Ian and Phil it is great to have this one safely out of the way and in the legs in prep for the big one in June. It seems daft to think of a 53 miler as a rehearsal, but clearly that's what it's mainly about for WHWers - a chance to see how the training is going and try out new pit-stop plans and food combinations etc

But Kaz, this was your "final" and it seems you played a blinder.
Although I hear you've said you may never do another ultra, I suspect that's not entirely true and that 2010 will see another harrier aiming for the full 95 miles in midsummer. No doubt now you could do it if you wanted to...

Also, I think it's great that there were so many harriers willing to give up a big chunk of their weekend to go and support. I'm sure it made a big difference to the runners!

Well done all three of you!  I've put some of the evidence of Kaz & Phil at http://tanconsult.blogspot.com - unfortunately the pics of Ian got a bit garbled.  If I can rescue them with a bit more geeky stuff, I'll post them as well.

Look forward to seeing Kaz back on Monday mornings and in good shape.

Very Happy Colin
