When I heard Ali say that Will had avoided the tax, I thought I should get his advice on how I could avoid mine. Seems I misheard....

All that training...we got to the top of the climb (having only had one puncture) then we were stopped for over 40mins, cold and fed up in the surreal situation being surrounded by tacks, lycra and beautiful scenery; Lawr, myself and many others went down an alternative route. It was very pretty, however we really felt cheated but don't get me started.
Enough to say that at the top of Schiehallion you couldn't have paid me to do the event next year, but after a warm shower and some food and the realisation that we had achieved a fair decent training run I went home and signed us both up for next year....
Well done to all those who made it round before the chaos commenced.

What a nightmare Wendy but glad to hear you are undeterred for 2010. Will had a lucky excape.
At least some small comfort is that the alleged perpertrator has been found and charged. Here's hoping he is made to feel very unwelcome when he next tries to walk down the high street in Pitlochry!

It was a long, long, long, time ago (in a Ford Galaxy - er, no, that's something else) but I used to do bike races on public roads round various places in the North of England (badly, in case anyone cares). The difference it made when the roads were closed was enormous - and we had local support everywhere we went. I can't think of a single occasion when we had any trouble. OK, the races were almost invariably early Sunday morning but even the religious folk didn't moan. What's different between Lancs, Cheshire & Yorks in the early 60's and Perthshire in the early 21stC? Virtually nothing save the odd nutter, now safely nutted, I hope.
Is there anywhere we can show our support for closed roads for local bike events?

The 'nutter' was one Alex Grosset aged 62 , an 'upstanding' member of his community - leader of his community council and elder of his church!!!!!!
Could be expensive for him - a potential criminal record and lots of damages to pay to all the cyclists with damaged bikes/wheels/tyres who are currently lodging damages claims!
