In his inimitable style, Digby has said it all, so I can only add a few pics from the day, viewable here http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/whi...y=0SWNJABPOf8&feat=directlink

A small deviation on the 4th leg made things more interesting.
The thought of getting chased down by Graham made me move up half a gear and when the going got really tough (for example when I encountered a little incline) I thought about the girls efforts out there on those hills.
Great to be part of the team. Any idea how we did?
Thanks to all who participate and helped out.
p.s found bag so graham i have your water bottle

I believe the ladies' team were 5th ladies - well done girls!
Thanks especially to Gordon for all the planning; I for one would have been lost without it!
See you all on Saturday.

Finally we have internet!
Yes, we came 5th All ladies' team. I am so proud of all you lovely ladies! Great performances all round!
How glad was I that we were racing yesterday when I woke in the night to see a full on blizzard out the window. I think we would have been doing even more crazy ski type descending than we did, Angela!
See all the Monday crew in a few hours. Off to get some much needed shut eye.

Thanks Gordon for organising what can only be described as a complete logistical nightmare. Very, very much appreciated.

Just to add to what others have said, well done everyone and thanks to everyone who picked up and dropped off various of us between legs.
Finally a huge thank-you to Gordon for organising so much of the day and especially for coaxing and encouraging me through leg 3. My first run after 3 weeks off running with a chest infection really made itself felt on Saturday but without Gordon's help I think I'd still be staggering around the hills today!
Thanks everyone and well done.

Can only add my admiration for the women's team - a really great performance. Special well done to Kaz and Angela. 1.16 is a really impressive time for such a tough leg.
I didn't manage to take too many photos, but the one of Liz just after the finish is a modern classic I think you'll agree (especially when you zoom in on her face.)http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/McStecko/DevilSBurdens2009#
It's always a good day out and next year the men's team WILL get a top 10 finish.

Lost and FoundI have a large white "sustrans" drinking bottle that was left in my car - potentially belonging to Cathy, Jim or Digby maybe? Could the owner please come forward?

Well Done Ladies Team!Just like to thank everyone for their help and support on Saturday.
Loved the race and had a great time on the hills with Karen, will never forget sliding downhill on the snow, was mental! the leg was the very meaning of what hill running is all about.
Definately put me (and Karen)down for that leg again, next year!
Well done to Liz and Ali, Cathy, Wendy and Karen and me too for coming 5th - Very Proud of us all!
See you all Saturday for the Dinner!
