Bothy outing ???
Liz

I'm not quite sure where and when yet but we are aiming for late April. The plan will be to drive or get the train somewhere and then run for 5 to ten miles have a nice evening with a few bottles of wine and then run back the next day.
I can sense you thinking that there is no way that i will run in carrying all my stuff and you would be right! That is where Phil and anyone else fancying a walk or cycle comes in.
Obviously there is much planning to be done but anyone who is interested is most welcome.
Maybe this should be moved to a seperate entry on the forum? I would do it but i'm not sure how sorry Gordon.
wendy

has this moved and i haven't been keeping up?
I really would like to do this trip and have some time off in april!!
Anyone else out there fancy it?
Will be great and endless posibilities of running in, catching the train in or MTB-ing in...

Bothy trip update!

Hi all,

We have a date set for the bothy trip. It was thought that May 4th/5th would be a good date. This is a Sunday to Monday as the Monday is a public holiday.

The plan is to catch the train to Currour Station from Crainlarich. We will run into a bothy in the area (still trying to find the actual name of it - is it Culra?).Maybe do a run while we are there and then run back out the next day.

Details of train times and running distances will follow, but i wanted to get the date posted so people can put it their diaries.

I reckon it will be  a great laugh. It is always fab to try a new wee adventure and to get out into our beautiful country; and if nothing else, it is a novel way to enjoy a glass or several of wine!

We will need people to bring tents, depending on numbers, as by all accounts it is a small bothy, but i will keep you posted.

Us runners will also need willing pack horses to carry our kit into the bothy; no drinking all the booze before we arrive however!

Oh and it is open and welcome to families as childcare can be tricky! So no excuses!

If people are interested can they post a reply, just so i can get an idea of who is 'up for' a run and who is happy to be our sherpas!

Kaz.

Yes I'm up for it!

You can count Kirsty and Me in.

I'm supposed to be nightshift, but fairly certain I can get it off.

Can't wait, I'm sure it will be great fun. Very Happy

At the moment I'm down for childcare duties for a friend who is working that day - the Monday. Morrisons Acad' is open that day but the other schools are off.  Will need to check to see if I'm still needed and she's on her hols at the moment!

Bothy trip update

Hi guys

OK, I have spent the morning looking over maps and train times.

The earliest train from Crainlarich to Corrour is at 2.30pm arriving 6.30pm so I think trains are probably not a good option.

Alternativley we can drive to Spean Bridge. From Spean Br there seems to be a good trail (key calls it: other rod, drive or track) right up to a nameless bothy situated in the valley under Stob Choire Claurigh. This trail seems to be about 11/12km or about 7 ish miles. The track is undulating with the highest point being about 400m (no nasty hills!)

Once there, people could go up mountains if they so desired, or there does also seem to be a loop that could be possible over moor land and round to loch Treig and back (16km / 10 miles climbing to about 550m). Alternativley just run out to Loch Treig and back (10/11km or 7 miles with about 350m climbing).

I think this looks a good option as the initial trail is a good biking track so that is one option, or as it is a fairly flat rail if we had to walk in with kit, that wouldn't take forever either.

Does this sound like a goer?

At the moment it seems to be:

Al and I
Liz and Phill (and the boys?)
Wendy (and Lawrence?)
Ali if she is not on babysitting duties.

Any other takers?

Karen.

Won't be able to make it sadly as looking after Matthews friend on the Monday.  Boo hoo! Sad

Hi Karen
Have just read your post regarding train times to Corrour from Crainlarich. The actual journey time is just over an hour but you would probably be better off getting train from Bridge of Orchy ( good pub and food). Train takes just over half an hour. There are probably about three a day. From Corrour you have a choice of Bothies either Stoinaig or Meanach which are probably about 5 and 7 miles respectively. Stoinaig is probably the better option as there is more chance of getting some wood to make a fire ( essential unless you carry some coal in ) In my opinion a Bothy outing without a roaring fire just isn't the same.
PS There are probably other bothies in the area but if you haven't been before you can't be certain of its condition. I have arrived cold wet and hungry at a BOTHY only to discover it is actually a sheeps toilet !!
PPS There is a nice tearoom at Corrour station most welcome if the weather isn't
wendy

i still think this would be such a good outing, however at this very moment i am in some pain as i think i have torn a little of my calf muscle during a (what turned out to be a very short) run.   Sad
I am hoping that i have treated it quick enough and that i will not have to 'rest' for more than a couple of days.
Off to seek some professional advice tomorrow....

Bothy Trip

Hi guys

Was thinking of postponing bothy trip as it is not really a club trip. Lawrence can't come either and Wendy is still recovering although would hopefully be ok. I think it is such a good idea, that it would be better to save it for a better date. If you agree Liz and Wendy, let me know as I have an engagement party on the Sat before we were going to go so I could poss stay over in Glasgow instead of belting back through.

Thanks, Simon for the advice anyway. It helped alot actually. I hae seen those two bothies on the map and had thought about those too but though the train was going to be a pest. Shall store the info away..

Kaz.

Hi Karen
No problem. Maybe a later date would fit in better, a club run somewhere different would be a great idea though !
