Aonoch Mor Gondola Uphill Race

So at 11am on New Year's day I found myself freezing half to death, eyes matchsticked open and rapidly trying to rid myself of red wine at the
bottom of the Aonach Mor Gondola. Apparently this seemed like a
hilarious idea 12 hours earlier!!!!

As it turned out it was a great idea - all red wine had been removed by
the time I reached the top station and the views were fantastic as it was one of those very rare minus temperature blue sky days.

I did the race in a time of 31mins 29 secs and came a respectable 50th
place out of a new race record 118 entries. Even better was I won a spot prize for coming 50th. Fastest lady was 26 or 27 mins. Fastest male was 22 minutes something and was a new record set by 17yr old from Banchory.

As reward for busting your lungs up 610m over
4km, you get soup and a roll and hot drinks in the restaurant and a free
ride down in the gondola. Very well organised and great fun!

Well done. I went up one year, but the weather didn't suit the gondolas so there was an alternative course. My darling kids got soaked to the skin rolling about in the snaw, whilst I got some exercise. My beloved failed to agree with us that this was a totally brilliant way to start the year. I haven't had the guts to suggest it again. Aye but, it is a super start, is it no? Well done.

Well done kaz.
I'm not sure what happened to the red wine. Am I to gather you were puking up the whole way up ? If so thats a remarkable run.
Anyway it sounds like a good effort either way.

No, thankfully no puking occurred for me - I think it just oozed out  of mu pores and evaporated into the cold, cold air. Not so for other poor buggers - there was some puking going on.

Oh I have also discovered how men prevent you from overtaking - gobbing with gusto off to one side - I very narrowly missed being the target on one massivo hockalookie! Needless to say I nipped past him as fast as I could!!!!

Well done Kaz - great result!

Surely you have come across the 'gobbing' male runner before?  Always get one near me on races!

Well chuffed!!!!

At the risk of blowing my own trumpet I am very excited to find out I came 7th lady in the race (out of 32 ladies). Cool! Top 10!

Kaz.
