A Very Special Prize DrawAs you all know, at the end of October our friend and fellow Harrier, Simon Wake, died tragically from pancreatic cancer, one of the most aggressive and untreatable forms of the illness.
As a constructive tribute to Simon's memory we have decided to hold a very special prize draw at this year's Ceilidh on January 31st to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund - http://www.pcrf.org.uk/ , instead of the raffle for club funds that has been the usual thing in previous years.
Our club sponsor, The Famous Grouse Experience, has generously arranged for Strathearn Harriers to have a very special and valuable limited edition of The Famous Grouse to use in raising money for a worthwhile cause of our choice.
Serendipitiously, to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns and Homecoming Scotland 2009 The Famous Grouse has just created a limited edition of just 250 bottles of The Famous Grouse 37 year old blended malt whisky, signifying every year of Burns’ life, with a label designed by well known Scottish artist, John Byrne.
These bottles will be highly desirable and increasingly valuable collector's items – on first release they are expected to have a value of at least £300. More details can be found at http://www.burnssupper2009.com/news/john-byrne-limited-edition.aspx
So we are delighted to have one of these very special bottles as the star prize in the draw!
But there are also other attractive prizes, including bottles of Famous Grouse Malt 10yo as well as non-potable goodies.
Draw tickets will cost £10 each. At first glance, the price may seem a bit high for a prize draw ticket but we hope you'll agree that it's justified given the value of the star prize and, more importantly, the cause to which the proceeds will go.
Tickets will be sold on the night, of course, but club members and friends who are unable to attend the Dinner can also take part in the big draw by buying tickets in advance. To do so, please send cash or cheque (payable to Strathearn Harriers) to Liz Mestecky, Willow Woods, Rectory Rd, Crieff, PH7 3DY to arrive no later than January 30th.
