A bit of variety? To spice up our Sunday training runs I would like to suggest that once a month we try to do something different and have a run further afield than the usual Crieff/Comrie routine. How's this?
September 21st: St Fillans - the same route we did for the Mince Pie Run
Meet Crieff 8am, Comrie 8.15, St F 8.30.
October 19th: Dunkeld - one of the longer walks around the Hermitage (Braan Walk? Other suggestions?) Comrie 8.00, Crieff 8.15, Dunkeld 8.45
November 16th: Bridge of Orchy - choice of a couple of Munros (Beinn Achaladair, Beinn a Chreachain) or, for those that prefer something less hilly, a run around the base of Beinn Dorain partly on the WHW.
December 21st (Mince Pie Run?): Glen Devon - starting and finishing at Tormaukin Inn? Need some route suggestions for this one.
January 4th: Loch Tay to Crieff - starting from Ardtalnaig, into Glen Almond and over one of the Chonzie Bealachs to Loch Turret (logistics need some thinking about...)
There should be something for everyone in this selection and hopefully we'll be able to get a good turnout.
What do you think? Post your replies and/or let me or Liz know if you be up for the the St F's run on 21st.

Hey Phil,
I think this is a great idea.
I'd be keen to come as long as at least one kind soul is prepared to wait for me and make sure I don't get lost! Maybe not on the serious hills though - unless someone is willing to lead a "munro-running for beginners" run at some point?
Cheers,
Kona

Cracking idea Phil. If I can get some childcare sorted, definitely up for Sept run (Will still in Norway).

Sounds good. I know some good routes for the Dunkeld run in October- could do a circuit round Loch Ordie and up Deuchary Hill... then stop for stovies in the Taybank Bar afterwards!

I know that many of you suffer horrible allergic reactions to getting out of bed before lunchtime on Sundays, but I'm hoping that a change of scene might just encourage you out. I can promise you wall-to-wall sunshine, spectacular views and wonderful company. And I can also promise that, when it's done and you're tucking in to your second breakfast afterwards, you'll feel smug, virtuous and glad you made the effort.
First Sunday away-day this weekend:
September 21st: St Fillans - the same route we did for the Mince Pie Run
Meet Crieff 8am, Comrie 8.15, St F 8.30.

After the very enjoyable run up Glen Tarken last month, the next of our month club outings is scheduled for this coming Sunday October 19th.
The plan is to drive up to Dunkeld and run around one of the longer walks around the Hermitage (Braan Walk? Other suggestions?)
We'll leave MacRosty park around 8.15 am so any Comrie-ites may want to rendezvous first at the Royal at 8.00 and then meet the rest of us in Crieff. We will aim to get to the Hermitage car park between 8.45 and 9.00.
Hope to see you all there!

Bridge of Orchy run November 16th
Meet at MacRosty Park at 8.45, Comrie Royal Hotel 9.00.
Two groups:
Group 1. Drop off at Auch on the A82 half way from Tyndrum to BoO. Run to Inveroran Hotel on the West Highland Way returning to BoO via the Lochside road. Approx 9 miles, relatively flat on good tracks.
Group 2. Park at BoO Hotel. Run East up Coire an Dothaidh to the bealach at 744m and then continue East down into Coire a Ghabhalach to pick up the track around the base of Beinn Dorain at Ais-an t-Sidhean to rejoin the WHW at Auch back to the BoO Hotel. Approx 9 miles partly on rough paths and partly on good tracks with 5-600m of climb.
We then all come back together at the Hotel for lunch and/or a beer or two. If there's enough of us going we can call up the Hotel and make a booking and maybe negotiate a good deal on lunch.
Please can you let me/Kaz know by November 2nd if you plan to come along for this one, which run you fancy doing and if you plan to stay on for lunch afterwards so we can see what arrangements we need to make.
Should be a great day out!

I think these are 2 great options so I feel spoilt for choice.
If I am there I would go for option 1 and would like lunch please.
I know I am being unhelpful by not committing but there are some imponderables the least of which is how I recover from a Marathon a week before.
I would recommend this outing to all Harriers

They sound great and I would love to go but Will is working that weekend, the boys have a rugby tournament and the early start always makes it difficult for childcare.
Boo hoo

Kaz and I will be there and would like to do the hillier option 2.
We'd like to arrive back and have a rewarding lunch. Sounds good.

Kirsty & I would love to come, but, unfortunately we can't that weekend.
I am training Doune Retained Firefighters all weekend, in the art of bringing people back to life with some oxygen and a defibulator .
Kirsty is involved in herding children round a sponsored walk via the new 'Clackmananshire Brigde' in aid of Strathcarron Hospice.
Sounds like a great day out, sorry we can't make it.

Judging by the response so far, I'm wondering if the following week (23rd November) would be better. Ali? George? Kaz? Phil? does this work for you? Anyone else?

Change in dateI think the strathaven 10k is that Sunday which George and Kirsty are doing. I had been thinking about doing it too but it is not essential as my legs are taking a wee while to regain any speed.
On the plus, my friends' engagement party is on the 15th Nov so if it is moved to the next weekend, Al and I can go to that without worrying about getting back in time for the run.
We are flexible in other words - we will be there either weekend.
Kaz and Al.

The 23rd is better for me so happy to go with the change.

Either of those days is fine by me and I'm hoping to make it. I was planning to bring my car, but that might make the lower-level route more difficult since its a linear one?

Jan 4th runReally need to watch out for the weather if contemplating doing Ardtalnaig to Crieff in January - with that distance and ascent, a lot of snow and ice could make the route arduous or impossible.

November tripSorry to be a pest but is it poss to make a decision about which date we are doing 4 the run in Nov?
It is just that Al and I may stay over in Glasgow after our friends' engagement party and so we need to book a hotel fairly soon and need to let our friends know our plans.
Don't mind either way.
Thanks guys.
Kaz.

Sorry - (Again!)
The strathaven 10k is that Sunday ...I'm NOT missing it this year!
I had Running gear in one hand and an inhaler in the other last year!..Couldn't go due to chest infection!..Grrrr!
Kirsty & I are both going.

OK. Decision made...it'll be Sunday 23rd for the Bridge of Orchy run. Hopefully it'll work for as many people as possible (sorry George - hope you can make the December Mince Pie run).
I'll e-mail all members some time next week with details of times and where to meet etc.

...Found out this morning that Karen & Al are ditching the Strathaven 10k to take part in the Bridge of Orchy run.
So, Kirsty & I have decided to do the same.
We will gladly join you for what promises to be a great day out.
So please mark us down to be in Group 1 meeting you at 9 am at the Royal Hotel Comrie.
Thanks for organising it all Phil!

I'll be working on the dates for all the runs to the end of the year.
Hope that maybe i'll be free for one or two next year .
Enjoy them and i hope you get good weather.

Yep, I will be there too and am planning to do the flatter route (Group 1). Also planning to drive, if anybody needs a lift?
