Hello folks,

Having now worked out that there are no races requiring competitors to possess both a Bus Pass and a Zimmer frame, Judith and I are reconciled to not adding to the doubtless bulging SH trophy cabinet. After an in-house committee meeting, however, we wondered if we might contribute in other ways. Taking George's post last year and Kona's kind invite over the hols as the cues, we thought we'd like to offer:

1. Use of our house (in Crieff) as the end of a Club multi-run.

By this, we mean if there were to be a number of simultaneous runs all aimed at ending more or less at the same time, folk could choose which one suited them. After arrival at ours and testing the adequacy of our two bathrooms, three loos and six sinks, food would be on offer followed by whatever entertainment appeals (quiz for knackered minds?). If anyone was of a mind to bring contributions to the calorie count, that would be nice too.

Would a Sunday late morning Brunch fit? We and house are also child and dog-friendly so, if the idea appeals, we felt sure the logistics wouldn't be beyond the combined brain power of the SH membership.

2. Transport for single-ended Club runs. Having got into Scottish hill walking (a bit!), we've looked several times at leaving one car and using the other - nearly had to do it for our WHW trip but were saved by my son - so felt this might be a help to someone sometime.

3. Chuck Wagon service (this was entirely Judith's idea, not mine, honest!).

Provision of provisions in awkward places for knackered bodies. If folk want to run in tricky places in rubbish weather (well, what I'd think of as rubbish, anyway), maybe we can help ensure the Club membership doesn't decline due to cases of hypothermia and accidental anorexia. Judith (who is now on her way to Malaysia and Hong Kong, lucky girl) has authorised me to offer her catering talents as might be thought helpful. Since she's just finished work forever (ho, ho) after 37 years in Catering, she'll just get irritable if there's no one to cater for except her less-than-discerning husband.

4. Anything Else Anyone Can Think Of.

Since I'm now retired, I have to fill up my vacant work time with other than finding The Meaning Of Life (OK, I know the answer's 42). So if there is any help I can give that fits my narrow range of talents, please suggest away.

First of all please don't think you both need to hang up your race shoes just yet! I hope you'll both take part both in club runs and the occasional race as well. It's great fun when a whole bunch of us show up for these things and you'd both get on fine I'm sure.

That said, it is great to know that if I have any hare-brained ideas for a run I can count on someone similarly leporidic-minded to help with logistics...

There are quite a few interesting looking one-way routes that I, for one, would like to have a go at ranging from Callendar to Comrie; the Lairig Ghru - requires a lift to Braemar and then pick up from Perth train station after getting the train from Aviemore; Loch Tay to Crieff etc etc etc.

And if there was a bacon buttie awaiting us at the end then that would be the icing on the cake (which would also be most welcome, I'm sure!)

For clarification.

Although my creaking joints creaked even more than usual at 0630 this morning, I was still out on the icy roads 20 minutes later looking like a turgid banana with a cherry on top and pretending it didn't really hurt. So please dismiss any thoughts that Judith and I don't intend to run until we drop. Just because we realise we're rubbish at it doesn't mean we're not committed to the lovely insanity that is running.

But to the other stuff, delighted to do what we can when we can so ask away. Just don't expect any non-life threatening catering whilst Judith's away on holiday.

This sounds great. A good social after a run is always a huge incentive.
I feel quite the same running, but that’s even on the wed night runs after I’ve had a whole day to ‘warm up’.

Well, since I seem to be destined to have pleurisy for the rest of my days (sigh, another week, another antibiotic), at least I can look forward to some good quality EATING! Thanks Colin and Judith!

Colin, I don't know if anyone has already asked you but would you be able to help out with transport next Saturday at the Devil's Burdens race on the Lomond Hills in Fife?

For example, it would be very helpful if you could drive runners back to wherever they have left their cars around the race route or conversely take them from their cars and drop them at the start of their race legs.

I'd be glad to help out on the transport front - I have 4 seats available in my car and am happy to do inter-leg ferrying etc etc. Have no idea where I'm going though, so would appreciate at least one passenger with a clue!

No problem. Liz mentioned it this morning and said you were meeting at the Rec at 0815 on Saturday. If anyone living in Crieff would like me to pick them up on the way there to save them using their car altogether, let me know. I have four spare seats.

Don't know the totals involved but would Kona and I as the SH Taxi Service cover everyone (including anyone coming from Comrie and meeting us at the Rec)?
