The last runner finished her leg 3 run in style by heading straight into a new multi-discipline sport by combining hill running and bog snorkeling.

Some cracking ones ... in particular Graham M in pinny, Al doing a passable impression of Bubbles the chimp and Colin waiting for a catch that never came.

It still boggles me the attraction of the hill running. Yes I admit that it was rather nice to be off road, but leg 4 was definitely the easy option in comparison to the other legs on offer.
Team tactics were discussed at the start of leg four with the promise of gates being held open and coats being laid over muddy ground, however with ‘baton’ in hand Jim McConnell set off with such ferocity and gust that I knew any team camaraderie was forgotten and a pay back run for the Devils Burden was on.
I feel somewhat embarrassed by my apparent outburst of an expletive at the finish line and I apologise to those in proximity that had to suffer. Embarassed

However in my defence, your honour, it was a true and accurate description of my feelings at that point and time.
All in all it was a really fabulous day.

I had an email from a runner whose daughter lost her teddy bear yesterday somewhere on the course. If you happen to have this bear or know of its whereabouts please let me know so it can be re-united with its owner. It goes by the name of Rocky. Very Happy

To add to the Lost & Found list, we picked up a child's fleece jumper at the end of the day. It is pink with a white band on the bottom and has ponies on the front. Unfortunately it didn't fit me so, if anyone knows who the rightful owner is, let Kaz or I know and we'll try and sort out returning it.

Fantastic day yesterday. Apart from me setting off a bit too fast on leg 2 and suffering up top, Doug helped me find my road legs for a final sprint finish to hand over to Jason.

Nice to be able to bask in the sun afterwards and enjoy a good curry in the evening too.

I have done a race report which is largely a thank you to all who helped on the day. Here it is.

Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay Report 2009
This race seems to be blessed with good weather and this year was no exception.
We had 29 teams competing including 3 home teams from Strathearn harriers. Included in those 29 teams were some high quality runners and it turned out that alot of them were concentrated in the Ochils 1st team.
The race started promptly at 10am and Prasad Prasad (Ochils) and Dave Phee(Giiffnock) had a rare tussle with Prasad coming in 1st in a new record of 42.27.
After that it was a case of Ochils extending their lead steadily throughout the race. They won every leg with another record being set on leg 4 by Ross Houston. Not surprisingly they set a new course record of 3hr 17min 12 sec a full 25 min ahead of Corstorphine in 2nd. Quite a remarkable effort.
Ochil ladies came in 1st ladies a full hour behind their male counterparts and 5 min ahead of Strathearn Ladies.
Carnethy took the vets male prize with Beacon Hill runners mixed team carrying off the mixed prize.
Bearing in mind that the course was the wettest I have seen it for the race, the times were superb and if Ochil bring the same team next year they will be very difficult to beat.
The race ran very smoothly on the day with barely a hitch. We did have one runner who got repeatedly lost on leg 4 but apart from that everyone got round fine. That is probably a result of good organisation and people getting used to the course.
We have a great race committee of Alex, Gordon, Judith, Colin and Phil who have all put in a massive effort to make the race a success on the day.
After the race we had a very nice barbeque superbly organised by Judith Tipping who showed off her organisational and culinary skills to produce burgers, tea and cakes seemingly without effort. She has the job for as long as she wants it. She had great support from Shelagh, Alison and Graham. Judith was also supported by Colin who also marshalled, kept time and did the finish as well.
There are of course alot of people to thank and apologies if I miss anyone.
We had a great set of marshals and timekeepers who put up with my completely unnecessary and unhelpful advice all day without complaining. Particular thanks are due to the marshals who aren’t Harriers who give up a whole day to help us out. These are John and Maddy King, Liz Tipping and Alan Laing .
In particular I would like to thank the Howat brothers who give up their time to help the club every year. Colin helps set up the course, marshal and is generally very helpful. Kenny does the PA and organises all the communications. They would be very hard to replace so do thank them if you see them, they both work in Comrie butchers.
Phil M was Gordon for the day and very creditable job he made of it. Registration and results went without a problem.
Stewart Anderson helps by organising the parking at Invergeldie which is crucial and he liaises with the estate so thanks Stewart.
Finally thank you to all the harriers who helped out on the day as well as running. Parking organisation, flipping burgers and tidying up afterwards are all crucial and much appreciated.
Hopefully the race will grow and flourish in the future but I think last Sunday will be hard to beat.
