Hiya,
Have any of you seen the new Ipod shuffle its tiny and a nifty piece of kit? Check it out at http://www.apple.com/
I know some people belive it is a crime to listen to music on the run but I am never without my sounds I even listen to sounds when racing.
There is only one way to see what is best music or not POLL POLL POLL

Hi Allan,
If I'm running on my own and doing some distance - I use Will's mp3 player cos its pretty small and helps keep me motivated. don't tend to bother on shorter runs though and definitely not when racing!

| Music? While running? Good grief! Next you'll be suggesting we get one of these new fangled machines for running indoors so you can watch the telly or check out how you look while running in your latest piece of fluorescent lycra. Bah! Humbug! |

I've always carried music with me to listen to while I travelled on business but never have when running. For me, letting my decaying brain freewheel for an hour or so with only sound of my pain to be heard has been better than hearing music. There's no end to the work problems I've solved under the influence of my own chemicals. Since I've also only run on roads (usually early mornings) before I joined the SH, being able to hear the traffic coming has had its benefits...
I'm told that The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of Music but, on Monday mornings at least, it's more like the Sound Of Friendly Banter - I'll settle for that.

I have a very simple rule- ipod on when road/trail running, leave ipod at home when hill running.
I sometimes find road running alone a bit tedious and music keeps the interest up. The only problem is that your running rhythm can get a bit knocked off when you're nipping along nicely with some Led Zeppelin playing and then all of a sudden it changes to some dead slow Brian Eno or reggae track - not exactly conducive to keeping a steady pace.
Hill running with music however is sacrilege!! |

Music really helps with long distance.
I would agree with Graham it has its place but not off road. |

For my long runs I'm looking forward to listening to our 'Stars In Their Eyes' Winners once they've been recorded . . . . _________________ "Sorry, I've got to run." |

| Definintely listen to music- it motivates me to keep going - ive got my 'beasting' playlist which has the desired effect! Don't always listen when Im with others as im wary it can be a bit rude, even though im rarely able to hold a conversation trying to run with you lot! |

I always listen to music when I'm running on my own. It's great to have some pumping tunes to motivate you when you want to do a tempo run.
For longer plodding runs, when it's not as important to keep the pace up, I like listening to podcasts as well as music. It takes your mind off the numerous miles in front of you. The only negative side to this is I have been known to burst out laughing - and then coughing - at an unexpected joke/funny story which can disrupt your rhythm a bit The thought of listening to one of my favourite podcasts has once or twice been the one thing that's stopped me talking myself out of going for a run after I've got home form work so that can't be a bad thing.
I guess whatever gets you out running - stick with it.
