Survived my first endurance event and mountain marathon at the Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon held in Kintail over the weekend 6/7 June.  We finished in 13 hrs 24 mins over the 2 days in the C class.

That was without doubt the toughest physical challenge I have ever experienced -  went through the full range of emotions too! Very Happy  Sad
I've attached a summary of my experiences to give you a better flavour!

No surprises with the winners in the top classes with Jethro Lennox and Andy Symonds winning comfortably in the elite and the young star Robbie Simpson and his partner Oleg Chepelin winning by miles in the B class.

The highs? The breathtaking scenery and great camaraderie amongst the competitors which spanned a huge age range.  And the finish of course!

The lows?  Utter and complete exhaustion, the poo pit at overnight camp which I managed to avoid most of the time (!)

Thanks to Will for his brilliant navigation and route selection, without which the days would have been even longer. Also for putting up with running with a very slow partner which must have been so frustrating for him particularly when all the whippets ran past us.  No thanks to him for wetting himself laughing as I tried to get up the stairs last night with my wooden legs!

Ali

Great effort lady!

Sounds great fun - I love that neck of the woods - the mountains are proper pointy beasts!

Rest up well but when you do feel ready to start again - my advice is try a walk first to prevent experiencing the pain I felt on my first outing!

Fab stuff you two. Wink

Well done you guys!  Doesn't sound like much fun  Shocked  Still, it's a more interesting way of testing the resilience of one's marriage than going to Ikea on a bank holiday weekend Wink

There is nothing easy about the LAMM and I suspect it is an aquired taste.  But when all is said and done it is a great event through stunning scenery.  We were I have to say, particularly fortunate to have good weather (roasting on Sunday) and no sign of midges, this may have been in part due to the positive influence of the course setter, the well known Angela Midge!  See Ali's article for a fascinating insight into LAMM life and the Midge effect!

Sounds to me like watching a 'Visit Kintail' travel film whilst spending two days lying on a bed of nails would have been less painful on the body and easier on the brain.  But then again, you wouldn't have all those Brownie points for being so much braver than most of the rest of us.

Well done, Ali, for getting round in one piece and well done, Will, for selflessly allowing Ali to share the pain.  Don't think I'd better suggest it to Judith......

Very Happy Colin
