We're planning a longish hill run for 29th December. Venue to be decided but probably within 1-1.5 hrs from Crieff so it'll mean a nice early start. Roughly 10 or so miles and several hills involved.

If you're interested, let me know and I'll keep you posted as arrangements firm up.

It still scares me to see both those words in the same sentence - 'Hill' and 'Run'..... Very Happy

Kaz,

So far it looks like me, Adrian, Simon, Digby and probably Gordon. The plan is to leave Crieff at around 7am on Saturday picking up Ade in Madderty on the way to Glen Clova. We'll drive as far up the glen as we can and then the plan is to do four munros (Broad Cairn, Cairn Bannoch, Tolmount then Tom Buidhe), 16 miles or so, with 1200 to 1400 m ascent. I would guess it will take about 4 hours or so...

This is all weather dependent and alternatives involving two of these four or even just Driesh and Mayar are potential fall backs.

Once we get down we will have something to eat in the Glen Clova Hotel and then there is talk of staying over in the bunkhouse to make a night of it. (That said, there's also talk of driving back after dinner too.)

Anyway, I hope that this all sounds appealing - you'd certainly be very welcome to join us!

Thanks for the info - that is quite a run. My sister has finalised her arrangements and she is coming to stay on Sat so unfortunately/fortunately I can't make it!!!!

I think perhaps it may have been a bit much for my first forray into hill running but there is part of me that is intrigued!

Have 'fun'.

Take care in the hills!

Happy New Year when it comes.

Karen

Change of plan. Forecast for Saturday is 'orrible (lots of snow and strong winds) but much better on Sunday so we're going to go then instead.

Can I suggest we aim to leave Crieff by 7.30 and pick up Ade en route? That should get us to Glen Clova for about 9.30 giving us 6 hours or so of daylight. Should be more than enough to do the route - depending on how much snow has been dumped on Saturday.

Then a beer of two and something to eat at Glen Clova Hotel and then back to Crieff.

Still not too late if anyone else wants to come along (currently still just Ade, Simon, Digby, Gordon and me) - let me know asap though so we can work out transport...

P.S. Kaz, does this change help you any? Shame if not, but there will be plenty more in 08! Meanwhile, I'm sure your regular Dumyat training will be helping!

Hope you guys had fun.

Only got your message today but to be honest i don't think i am good enugh yet!

Went for a lovely walk today instead - the 10 mile route behind glen turret resevoir. Thought it would be a good idea to walk it before i headed out running!

Was very slidey on the tops so i hope you all got down safely!

Brilliant day in the hills. Wall-to-wall sunshine and a dusting of icing sugar over everything.

Gordon, Ade (accompanid as ever by Zola) Simon, Digby and I set off from the Glen Doll car park above the Glen Clova Hotel around 10 am and completed a circuit of 4 Munros (Broad Cairn, Cairn Bannoch, Tolmount and Tom Buidhe) before Digby, Simon and I went on to bag Mayar and Driesh for good measure.

Gordon and Ade's circuit was approx 16 miles with 4141' of climb completed in 4hrs40. The longer circuit was about 19.5 miles, 5086' climb and took 5hrs06.

The day ended as it should with a couple of pints of "Lure" in the pub in Meiklour.

Thanks to Ade for driving - his camper van proved a highly sociable form of transport and good for a brew-up at the end of the run. Only thing is it clearly needs a new paint job - we suggest blue and white with "Strathearn Harriers" emlazoned on the side...
