Fred takes an early lead

After 2 races in the championship (Kinross 10k and Dumyat) plus a number of jokers, 1/2s, Ultras and Hill Races, a league table is starting to emerge for 2009.

In the men's competition Fred has taken an early lead having completed a joker race (Cupar 5) and the Kinross 10k. Ian and Phil have done 3 races in the 1/2 M, M, Ultra category, but it's their performances at Inverness 1/2 which have given them both a good start.

In the women's league, it's very close at this point with Kaz just in front of Cathy and Ali. Full tables to date:

Men

1. Fred McCain (2 races) = 21.6 points
2. Phil Tipping (1) = 11.6
3. Ian Beattie (1) = 10.7
4. James Bussey (2) = 10.6
5. Phil Mestecky (1) = 9.5
6. Matt McLay (1) = 6.5
7. Peter Hague (1) = 6.3
8. Rob Bolton (1) = 6.2

Women

1. Kaz Nicholl (1) = 10.0
2. Cathy Tilbrook (1) = 9.1
3. Ali Manners (1) = 8.4
4. Beth Fotheringham (1) = 6.5

If you think I've missed a race that qualifies for the championship, please post it on the form or e-mail me. It would be helpful if you could include your time, the winners' times (M&F) and the times of any other Harriers in the race.

Also, do remember to wear your club vest for races and make sure you include your club name when you register so that it appears in the results. It seems that this doesn't always happen and, at my discretion, may lead to your results not being included in the championship!  Sad

If you don't own a vest they are available from Liz for just £10.

Next race is the Knock Hill Race on Wednesday May 27th 7.30pm

Cathy and Fred out in front

After 4 races in the championship (Kinross 10k, Dumyat, Knock Hill and Lang Toun) plus a number of jokers, 1/2s, Ultras and Hill Races, a league table is starting to emerge for 2009.

In the men's competition Fred is still ahead having completed 3 events. James is hot on his heels though, only 3 points behind.

In the women's league, it's Cathy has a commanding lead at this stage over Ali in second. Full tables to date:

Men

1. Fred McCain (3 races) = 32.2 points
2. James Bussey (4) = 29.4
3. Peter Hague (2) = 17.7
4. Rob Bolton (2) = 16.2
5. Matt McLay (2) = 15.7
6=. Digby Sym (1) = 12.5
6=. *Ben Wake (1) = 12.5
8. Jim McConnell (1) = 11.7
9. Phil Tipping (1) = 11.6
10. Allan Mooney (1) = 11.1
11. Ian Beattie (1) = 10.7
12. Phil Mestecky (1) = 9.5
13. Vic Johnstone (1) = 6.6

*This year, so as not to penalize him too much for being young, I'm using 1.3 as Ben's age-based multiple rather than his actual age which would give him a multiple of just 1.18.

Women

1. Cathy Tilbrook (3) = 34.2
2. Ali Manners (2) = 19.6
3. Angela MacKenzie (1) = 12.7
4. Kaz Nicholl (1) = 10.0
5. Fiona Lyle (1) = 9.4
6. Kathleen Campbell (1) = 9.3
7. Beth Fotheringham (1) = 6.5

If you think I've missed a race that qualifies for the championship, please post it on the forum or e-mail me. It would be helpful if you could include your time, the winners' times (M&F) and the times of any other Harriers in the race.

Next race is not until 6 August for the Comrie Fun Run so plenty of time to get your jokers, ultras, hill races etc done!

Hi Your Honourable Club Captain,

I ran a 4 mile trail race last night in Nottingham results are at http://www.hprcrun.co.uk/GP/Archive/GP2009R2.htm  Whilst I realise my joker has been used up and it falls below the required distance.

What are the chances of the following considerations being made due to my geographical challenges?

The race would qualify as an English Joker given I have used up my scottish joker Rolling Eyes
The race is only 4 miles, however as it was in the middle of nowhere I had to run a few miles afterwards to find a village with civilisation soI could phone a taxi. Embarassed

Hopefully these considerations will be taken into account in your assessment of my claim Very Happy

Or am I just pushing my luck??

Congratulations to James Bussey and Cathy Tilbrook who are crowned club champions for 2009!

James just pipped Matt McLay by just 2.3 points to take the title. Strong performances in the Comrie Fun Run, Lang Toun and Durisdeer just enabled him to hold off a spirited challenge from Matt. Matt is almost certainly our most prolific racer this year taking part in all bar one of the Bog and Burn series as well as 6 of the club championship races. In the end however, missing out on the high scoring Lang Toun 10k proved to be the decisive factor.

In the women's competition, while Cathy was the only woman to complete the requisite 5 races, her excellent total of 59.5 points makes her a worthy winner.
