Idea This is NOT my idea!

There has been talk/interest from several people about doing the Loch Ness Marathon.

http://www.lochnessmarathon.com/

I may be tempted, Kirsty has shown interest and Elaine has asked if any of us are doing it. Shelagh, Liz & Karen were discussing it on Monday.

Seems like a good opportunity for us to do some long runs together through the summer months.  Smile

I'm sure if we attend Phil M's Tuesday training evenings and clock up a few long runs we could be ready for it.

It could be a memorable Strathearn Harriers weekend away?

We would need to enter very soon or there will be no places left!

So......Who is interested ?

I might be tempted by a marathon later in the year, but I think I'd prefer to start out with a much smaller one (not keen on claustrophobic crowds!).  Any suggestions?  Somebody mentioned a small one in Scotland that was very friendly, but I can't remember which one it was...  Embarassed

Hi Kona, Loch Ness is not like a big city marathon when Shelagh and i did it there were about 1300 runners and you never felt claustrophobic, the runners soon spread out and Phil and Simon and the children were able to ride along  with us on their bikes and give us drinks and sponges etc. If you want to do one i'd give this one consideration it has a great atmosphere.

Sounds like a great idea to me - I'm already entered and 8 weeks into a training programme so I would think that Very Happy

Kona - if you are looking for a less busy marathon later in the year the Moray Marathon at Elgin is recommended - it was well organised and only had about 130 folk in it last year.  It was my second and Elaine's first and we both enjoyed it. They start a half and 10k on the same route but even that doesn't make it too busy.

How about coming to Budapest !! as an alternative to Loch Ness.
As I only plan to run one marathon in this life time I decided to go somewhere completely different & to a city I want to revisit too ,so have signed up for Budapest. It's the same date, october 4th.
So why not join me & run the budapest marathon this year.
So far it's just me & my support team of one - longsuffering hubby,Murray.
A weekend in Inverness or a weekend in Budapest - the choice is yours!

Fiona, I would vote for Loch Ness rather than Budapest.  You are able to understand the race instructions and you get to run in miles rather than kilometres.  42 km is a heck of a long way - 26 miles seems much easier.

I've taken my own (and George's) advice and entered Loch Ness.  Looking forward to it already.

Maggie's still have a few guaranteed charity places left in the Baxters Lochness Marathon, 4th October and I wonder if you could pass the word around your club members.  If you think it would be more effective to have a poster I would be happy to put one in the post.

If you know of anyone who may be interested they can just email me for more information.

Maggie's centres are 100% dependent on fundraising to carry on their work and we appreciate your help in this matter.

Thank you for your time.

With best wishes

Judith
